Delta Police have issued a warning to the public as they have seen an increase in cryptocurrency scams.
These crimes are often international, often anonymous, and often irreversible, say police.
Below are some warning signs to consider when you’re looking to invest in cryptocurrency:
1. If it’s too good to be true, it probably is.
2. The company or investment platform is located in a known tax haven or is unregulated.
3. The investment platform asks you to create an investment account in one platform and then send crypto currency to their platform.
4. The investment platform does not have an online chat feature, but instead wants you to chat via your phone number.
5. Customer support is offered through WhatsApp, Telegram, or another third party application.
6. The cryptocurrency trading platform also trades in precious metals.
7. If the company requires payment for you to withdraw funds.
8. Volume or market trade data is not available in real-time.
9. Payment is required before you can join the platform as a “member.”
10. Spelling mistakes, poor formatting on the website.
Police say there are many more signs that you may be looking at a fraudulent investment site. Most legitimate platforms will share information about how to avoid being scammed.
The number one rule, if someone has given you a wallet address to send your cryptocurrency to, do not do it.
