If you’re searching for love on a dating app, you may want to be on the lookout for some crypto-currency scams. The Better Business Bureau has advice on how to avoid this.
Here’s what the Better Business Bureau says to be aware of.
It could happen when or if you swipe right on someone and instantly match with them. After some conversation, your alleged match asks to start talking on another app like WhatsApp.
Then your match starts saying they know a successful crypto investor. They promise they can make you just as successful if only you deposit some money into a crypto trading platform.
“You do that, and they will show that you’ve made some return on that, maybe put some more. But, what ends up ultimately happening is you’re not gonna get that money back. They disappear. You give them access to your bank account information that will withdrawal the funds,” said Jennifer Adamany with the BBB.
To protect yourself from this scam, the BBB says to:
- Never send money or personal info to someone you’ve never met in person.
- Only communicate on the dating app. If they try to move to another, it could be a red flag.
- Ask the scammer about different details in the dating profile.
- Lastly, you can report any scam to the BBB Scam Tracker.
