The anti-crypto US Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren and the crypto-friendly Republican candidate John Deaton will come face-to-face- for a debate twice on October 15 and October 17.
New England Public Media and GBH News will be conducting a debate between the two senatorial candidates in Springfield on October 17. Moreover, Warren and Deaton will also debate on WSBK-TV in Boston on October 15.
As for what to expect in these debates, it remains yet to know if ‘crypto’ will be the topic of the debate between the two candidates. GBH News has refused to share the subject of debates in advance.
Senator Warren does not shy away from speaking ill of cryptocurrencies, and has even linked digital assets to ‘funding illegal activities’. Republican Deaton, on the other hand, is a lawyer who has advocated for Ripple and other crypto firms facing lawsuits from the US SEC. In May, Deaton had even accused SEC’s policy approach of being biased because it focuses on legitimate and reputable companies such as Ripple, Kraken, Coinbase, Uniswap, LBRY, Dragonchain, and MetaMask while neglecting those who are actually engaging in fraudulent activities.
Deaton has many times criticized the SEC for “pushing an anti-crypto agenda” through enforcement actions and criticized SEC Chairman Gary Gensler. Deaton’s pro-crypto stance has been appreciated by several crypto leaders, in fact, Commonwealth Unity Fund, a political action committee backed by many crypto biggies, and Gemini co-founders Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss have voiced their support for Deaton’s campaign through contributions or media buys.
