Uniswap Founder’s Twitter Account Hacked in Scam Attempt
Uniswap founder Hayden Adams’ Twitter account fell victim to hackers who attempted to deceive his more than 254,000 followers on July 20. The compromised account sent out a tweet falsely claiming that the platform’s Permit2 contract had been compromised and users’ tokens were at risk, urging them to click on a suspicious link. However, the tweet was quickly taken down, but multiple similar tweets had also been posted.
Crypto Twitter users rallied together to warn others of the scam circulating from Adams’ account. The “Web3 Security Alerts” channel on Telegram promptly notified its followers about the hack. It was later reported that Adams had been blocked from his accounts with MetaMask and Coinbase Wallet, further complicating the situation.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenge of bad actors leveraging social media platforms to deceive users and steal their cryptocurrencies or fiat assets. While platforms like Twitter are working to address the issue by temporarily limiting the number of daily posts users can read to combat bots and malicious actors, the problem persists. Uniswap Labs, the official Twitter account of Uniswap, clarified the situation by confirming the hack and warning users not to click on any links. They assured users that there was no giveaway, airdrop, or bounty, and that the Uniswap Protocol had not been compromised.
