According to reports from celebrity news sources Daily Trends, rapper Doja Cat’s X account was hacked on July 8 to promote a scam crypto token bearing her name
The fake token, “$DOJA,” saw a rapid increase in value following its promotion through the hacked account. Market data indicates that the token’s market capitalization peaked at $1.65 million shortly after the launch.
However, this surge was short-lived, with the value plummeting to $16,820 within hours, resulting in investors losing over $1.63 million.
The Daily Trends shared evidence of the scam, posting an image of the now-deleted X post from Doja Cat’s account. The post featured an image of the rapper in armor while holding a sword, with the message “buy $DOJA or else” followed by a Solana contract address.
The hacked account also threw shade at fellow rapper Iggy Azalea, who recently launched her own celebrity memecoin called MOTHER.
However, Iggy Azalea commented on the situation, affirming her real-life friendship with Doja Cat and dismissing the legitimacy of the hacked posts. “Get rugged if yall want but I’m cool w that girl irl so yall f**d up w that tweet hackers,” she posted on her X account.
According to data from DEXScreener, the “Doja Cat” (DOJA) token on the Solana blockchain reached a high of $0.001656 within the first hour of its launch. With a total supply of 1 billion coins, this peak price implied a market capitalization of $1.656 million.
