AN American, two Israelis and two Filipinos were arrested during a raid by the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) in Pasig City on Wednesday night for allegedly operating a crypto currency scam.
PBGen. Sidney Hernia, PNP-ACG director, identified those arrested as Aron Dermer, an American citizen; Shay Semo and Chen Karen, both from Israel; and Filipinos Marie Mizukami and Krizzia Garcia.
Gen. Hernia said the suspects were arrested during a raid by PNP-ACG operatives at 6:58 p.m. at 61B San Juan, Capitolyo in Pasig City on the strength of a Warrant to Search Seize Examine Computer Data (WSSECD) issued by Presiding Judge Andres Bartolome Soriano of Makati City Branch 148.
He said the three arrested foreigners were registered as the owners of the establishment. The Filipinos, on the other hand, were suspected to be the agents in the crypto currency
The suspects were caught in the act while conducting online fraud.
“Chat scripts and conversations with their victims were seen in their computer units,” said Hernia on Thursday.
Confiscated during the raid were 21 laptops with peripheral, numerous flash drives and hard drives, assorted mobile phones, several desktop computers and assorted foreign and Philippine currency bills.
The arrested suspects and confiscated items were brought to PNP-ACG Headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City for booking and proper documentation. They underwent inquest proceedings at 1 a.m. Thursday.
Hernia said the police operation stemmed from information provided by a certain Amere that the arrested foreigners were maintaining an illegal establishment for the crypto currency scam.
