Residents report computer Bitcoin scam

The following items were taken from area police department reports and press releases. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt.

Alcohol

Michael McKean, 67, of the 400 block of South Argyle Avenue, Elmhurst, was cited for possession of open liquor on public property at 11:44 p.m. July 10.

Assault

Tevvan Dotson, 29, of the 100 block of Forest Avenue, Oak Park, was charged with assault and criminal damage to property at 8:41 p.m. July 7.

Battery

James Porter, 55, of the 100 block of North County Farm Road, Wheaton, was charged with battery, possession of drug paraphernalia, assault and violation of bail bond at 10:27 a.m. July 6 after it was alleged he struck an employee of CVS Pharmacy, 110 W. North Ave.

Eduardo Lopez Ruiz, 32, of the 400 block of West St. Charles Road, Elmhurst, was charged with two counts of domestic battery and with interfering with the reporting of domestic violence at 10:09 p.m. July 6.

Stephanie Demondo, 38, of the 700 block of North Howard Avenue, Elmhurst, was charged with domestic battery at 10:20 p.m. July 7.

Burglary

Property was reported taken from an unlocked semi-tractor truck in the 100 block of West Industrial Drive between 7:30 a.m. and 11:33 a.m. July 10.

Cannabis

Xavier Martinez, 19, of the 1100 block of North Laramie Avenue, Chicago, was cited for possession of cannabis by a driver and for improperly tinted windows at 1:05 a.m. July 11.

Disorderly conduct

Willie Winder, 67, of the 400 block of North York Street, Elmhurst, was cited for disorderly conduct — public urination at 1:01 p.m. July 7 in the parking lot of Mariano’s, 678 N. York St.

Dog bite

Melissa Guimond, 32, of the 100 block of North Willow Avenue, Elmhurst, was cited for not having a rabies tag for her dog at 4 p.m. July 7 after the dog reportedly bit another dog.

Drugs

Jose Flores Jr., 23, of the 100 block of North Rory Avenue, Northlake, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia at 9:08 p.m. July 7.

Santos Lopez Tomas, 31, of the 500 block of North Macie Court, Addison, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, driving under the influence, driving without a valid driver’s license, driving without insurance, illegal transport of open alcohol and improper lighting at 3:01 a.m. July 9.

David Rivera, 33, of the 1400 block of Morgan Avenue, LaGrange Park, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, burglary and retail theft at 2:39 p.m. July 12 after police responded to Jewel-Osco, 944 S. York St., for a report of theft of liquor.

DUI

Gregg Straumann, 65, of the 400 block of North Oak Avenue, Elmhurst, was charged with driving under the influence, driving on an unsafe tire and driving without insurance at 6:01 p.m. July 6.

Antoni Fabian-Lopez, 20, of the 200 block of Bonnie Brae Avenue, Elmhurst, was charged with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended driver’s license, driving without a valid driver’s license and transport of open alcohol at 5:39 a.m. July 8.

Kathleen Police, 68, of the 300 block of 81st Street, Willowbrook, was charged with driving under the influence, improper lane use and failing to dim headlights at 1:23 a.m. July 9.

Fireworks

Angela Cortez, 39, of the 900 block of South Prospect Avenue, Elmhurst, was cited for possession of fireworks at 12:03 p.m. July 4.

Identity theft

A resident reported that in April an unknown suspect hacked his Facebook Messenger account and sent messages to unknown people requesting money.

A resident reported that on July 6 someone made an unauthorized purchase on her credit card.

Theft

Electronic items, a microwave oven and refrigerator were reported taken from a locked work truck parked on the 600 block of North Larch Avenue between June 15 and June 27.

Dalton Eggerson, 34, of the 7100 block of South Wolcott Avenue, Chicago, was cited for theft at 11:14 p.m. July 7 after reportedly taking two pairs of sunglasses from Thorntons, 476 N. York St.

A victim told police that while shopping in Jewel-Osco, 153 E. Schiller St., around 11:15 a.m. July 9, a suspect approached him asking if the victim dropped a $20 bill. The victim looked into his wallet and told the suspect the $20 bill did not belong to him. Subsequently, the victim was unable to locate his credit card and later learned fraudulent charges were made on his credit card.

Celeste Radcliffe, 37, of the 400 block of South 20th Avenue, Maywood and Shakonna Thomas, 29, of the 3900 block of South Lake Park Avenue, Chicago, were charged with burglary and felony retail theft at 2:58 p.m. July 10 after police responded to a call of a theft in progress in CVS Pharmacy, 110 W. North Ave.

Jose Perez, 38, of the 400 block of St. Louis Avenue, Chicago, was charged with felony retail theft at 7:35 p.m. July 10 after allegedly leaving Jewel-Osco, 944 S. York St. with merchandise for which he hadn’t paid.

Two white male suspects reportedly stole cologne and cosmetics from Kohl’s, 303 S. Route 83, about 3:30 p.m. July 12.

Theft by deception

The victim told police an unknown offender claiming to be an associate of her bank gained access to her account around July 3 and advised her to withdraw money to prevent internal bank fraud. The victim made withdrawals from her account and transferred the funds into a Bitcoin account. Police are investigating.

Another victim told police while on his computer between July 5 and July 6 he was prompted to call Microsoft for an error. Upon calling what he thought was Microsoft, he was advised his bank account was compromised. To avoid further loss, the victim was told to send money to their Bitcoin account and his other money would be returned. Investigation pending.

Theft of services

A customer left Cyndi Nails, 563 N. York St., without paying for a full set of acrylic nails at 11 a.m. July 12.

Traffic

LaShawn Burnett, 47, of the 700 block of North Kenilworth Avenue, Elmhurst, was charged with driving with a suspended driver’s license at 3:40 p.m. July 6.

Francisco Solorio-Medina, 23, of the 3600 block of Hamilton Avenue, Chicago, was cited for improper use of registration at 6:13 a.m. July 8.

Willie Akins, 26, of the 3000 block of West Madison Street, Chicago, was charged with possession of cannabis in a motor vehicle, driving without a valid driver’s license, driving without insurance, improper use of a signal and improper lane use at 10:31 a.m. July 10.

Samuel Cortes, 27, of the 700 block of North 15th Street, Melrose Park, was charged with speeding at 2:28 p.m. July 10.

Tabatha Johnson, 47, of the 5000 block of Butterfield Road, Hillside, was charged with driving with a revoked driver’s license and disobeying a traffic control signal at 5:05 p.m. July 10.

Charles Bellavia, 57, of the 1800 block of Kings Point Drive, Addison, was cited for disobeying a stop sign, improper display of registration, driving with expired registration and driving without insurance at 6:48 p.m. July 11.

Reynaldo Marques-Gonzalez, 46, of the 100 block of North 16th Avenue, Melrose Park, was cited for driving without insurance at 6:49 a.m. July 12.

Anisa Kola, 18, of the 300 block of Starling Court, Bloomingdale, was cited for driving without insurance at 10:20 a.m. July 12.
