New Delhi: With the arrest of four men, including two MBA graduates, a gang of scammers that duped people on the pretext of investing in the share market has been busted. Investigations have revealed that the suspects had converted Rs 4.5 crore in stolen funds to cryptocurrency and moved it to the account of a person living in Kazakhstan over the past two months, police said. Suspects Rohit (38), Varun (23), Manish Mann (29) and Uday Mittal (37) had allegedly cheated a doctor from a prominent hospital on the pretext of high returns, a senior police officer said. The doctor was given some tasks to complete and initial amount was paid and later he was asked to invest money and duped of Rs 29 lakh, said Rohit Meena, DCP (southwest). After adding the doctor to a group, he was asked to review a hotel, and an account was created for him on an application, police said, adding, “Then, he was pressured to do prepaid tasks and invest money in different accounts provided by the fraudsters. When he attempted to withdraw his money, he was unable to do so. A case has been registered”. A team was formed under inspector Vikas Kumar Buldak to investigate the matter. “While investigating the money trail, the team found that some part was transferred to a bank account in Dwarka Sector-7 which was registered in the name of Rohit Kumar. The amount was withdrawn through cash using cheque in two transactions one in Noida while other in Ghaziabad,” the DCP said. Upon reviewing the bank’s CCTV footage, it was found that two men had withdrawn the cash and one of them was identified as Rohit Chhikara, the DCP said, adding that Rohit and Varun were apprehended during raids conducted in Delhi-NCR.During questioning, the duo revealed that they were working on commission for a co-conspirator, Manish Mann, who received payments into their accounts and then convert them into cash, the officer said, adding Mann was arrested along with Uday Mittal following Varun’s information.Mann, who was connected to someone residing in Kazakhstan,would provide cash to Uday Mittal, who then converted it into USDT (cryptocurrency) and forwarded it to Kazakhstan-based individual’s crypto wallet, the DCP said. An analysis of the portal of NcRP affairs identified 22 complaints linked to this case.
