Trader loses 98 lakh to crypto fraud

Ahmedabad: A businessman from Naroda was cheated out of Rs 98 lakh by cybercriminals who led him to believe he was making an investment. Naresh Kamlani, 38, a resident of Vishnu Park in Naroda, sells autorickshaws from his showroom in Shahpur. On Monday he filed an FIR with Cybercrime police for the loss of Rs 98 lakh to cybercriminals.Kamlani said he had received a message on Telegram about investments in the stock market in Dec. Another message was about investments in a cryptocurrency through a firm in Canada. Kamlani was registered on a website and he began depositing money in the form of USDT. He paid Rs 98 lakh between April 4 and June 7.Kamlani said he submitted repeated requests to withdraw his funds between June 18 and June 21, but nothing happened. He was later told via the cryptocurrency Telegram group to pay Rs 8.34 lakh to get access to his funds. He then lodged the complaint. TNN
